Argos developer documentation

Introduction

Argos controls meaningful Codex mutations against a declared Task and independently verifies the repository outcome.

What Argos does

Argos is an independent control and verification layer for AI engineering agents. Codex still reads, reasons, and proposes work. Argos evaluates supported mutations against the declared Task before they reach the repository, asks for human judgment only when needed, and verifies the final repository state independently.

The controlled Task loop

Task -> Codex -> EXPECTED / REVIEW / PROTECTED -> execution -> independent verification -> Task / Evidence

EXPECTED

The proposed path matches the Task and proceeds quietly.

REVIEW

The exact proposal waits for an authenticated human decision.

PROTECTED

The proposal is blocked before repository mutation.

Current alpha boundary

The supported path is intentionally narrow: Codex CLI 0.143.0, one repository, and one existing-file apply_patch update per controlled operation.
